Today we had to do a task from the summer learning programme which was to do a book review about what we read throughout the year and I chose this one.

I have been learning to summarize the text and finding out what the book is mostly about.
Pacific Paradise

Last week I read a really interesting book called Pacific Paradise and it was written by Mary campbell. This book is mostly about how an adult eels lay their eggs, These kind of eels are about 2 metres long and it weighs 21 kilograms. Isn’t that big because I bet no one has an eel that big and long. This eel is only found in New Zealand there’s only one eel that is in Australia and that is the shortfin eel. There are two main species of eel in New Zealand and one in Australia and they are the longfin eel and the shortfin eel. Did you know that the longfin eels like the fast- flowing and stony river beds, the shortfin eels like the swamps and slow- flowing coastal and lowland rivers.

My favourite part about this book is the life cycle about a eel going from eggs and growing into an adult, when they grow into adults they start to spawn meaning to release eggs

Yucky Cockroach

SURVIVOR

Here is a book called Survivor and this book is written by Robin Nathan. This is mostly about a cockroach stealing food and learning about himself off a laddies computer. The laddie always gets the fly spray and tries to kill him. She always freaks out when she sees the cockroach running around.

What I found interesting in this book are puns. Puns are like jokes but a two different meanings. For example, the cockroach in the book said Yo Daddy, how’s it hanging, he said to the spider. Then that is just like a pun but it’s just different then another joke like those silly ones that people say.

My favourite part of this story is when the cockroach was eating pizza and the laddie looked at him eating and she yelled “aaaaaah” at him. And he looked at her and dropped the food and ran away.

The Ultimate Duffy Hero

Today Ray Bishop visited our school. I think that Ray was telling us what dream we should be when we grow up into adults, I want to know how to be a scientist and a Rugby player when I grow up. He told us about himself achieving his goals when he was 5 years old,  He said that when he was small he always wanted to be a singer right up to 30 years. It looks like he was trying his best and he worked really hard to be a singer.

                     Born of the year of the rabbit

I have read a book called Born Of The Year Of The Rabbit. This article is about a boy named Hua Yan and his life in China. This book was written by Peter Mirams.  

This book has a boy that lives with eight million people that is in a medium sized city which is in China. They even go to school at 8am and school finishes at 5pm.

In my opinion life in China is really difficult for them and how they are doing things. The way that they do stuff is really different than us.

              

Here is my book review about painting the town

Last week I read a book Painting The Town with my group, The author is Renata Hopkins. This book is a report.

This book is about artists painting on the shops or buildings. Christchurch has painters to paint wherever there is a broken building. They paint huge murals by using a projector to face it at the wall and then they trace around the picture.

This is what I learnt this week. I learnt that reports have subheadings, subheadings are above paragraphs explaining what it’s going to be about.

My favourite part about this book is when they are painting lots of paintings.
